Cape Town and the Winelands is an excellent place to travel with children. You’ll find a multitude of parks, gardens, activities and markets to enjoy with the whole family, not to mention child-friendly restaurants and a few rainy-day options. Highlights include walking Kirstenbosch’s twisting Boomslang bridge and marvelling at the Two Oceans Aquarium’s jaw-dropping array of sea monsters, while there are several play parks and wildlife centres. Cape Town’s beaches offer a classic weekend family outing, and kids may enjoy riding the Metrorail train to False Bay, while older children can learn to surf, sandboard, rock climb or ride horses. Kids’ menus are widespread and most restaurants are sympathetic to families, but don’t expect facilities such as high chairs and changing rooms away from larger chains and malls.
